17th Century oak dresser later painted with moulded cornice above a highly decorative plate rack frame with carved lion heads under the cornice to both sides and the shelves also having a patterned edge. The breakfront worktop below has three carved frieze drawers, the small drawer flanked by carved cherub heads and the large drawers flanked to one side by lions heads with potboard base below on stile feet. This piece is an exciting example showing the skills of 17th Century craft and tooling. The panels show the gouging marks of the adz, the country craftsman's tool of the time. For the imaginative interior, this dresser can work as a partition, with the back on show. The ironmongery, although of a later period, has been beautifully selected where the large back plates and rings reflect the floral pattern of the drawer carving. There has been some restoration to the stile feet.
